FO: Tineola

As soon as I dyed a few batches of my new Gosling yarn base (a delicious 70/20/10 blend of superwash merino, baby alpaca, and silk), I was eager to knit a sample. So I hoped on Ravelry to find a pattern and stumbled on the Tineola shawl by Ambah O’Brien. I’ve always admired her patterns but never got around to knitting one, until now. I was drawn to this pattern because I love the concept — I mean, it practically glorifies a knitter’s arch-nemesis, but at the same time, it’s just so pretty!

It’s a relatively quick knit; the pattern starts with a bit of short-row shaping and then has you make increases with yarn overs. — which, in my mind, double as decorative moth holes!

The actual Tineola (or moth) motifs look complicated but are just a series of dropped stitches that are later picked up and knit together. Brilliant!

The rest of the shawl is knit garter stitch (save for a few purled decreases on the wrong side.) To be fair, the pattern only uses about half a skein of Gosling but, overall, this was a super quick, easy, breezy knit!

When it comes to blocking my FOs, I can be pretty aggressive. For this project I used blocking wires along the top and T-pins for each border loop. Call me biased, but Gosling blocks beautifully and the baby alpaca and silk fiber content give this shawl such a gorgeous hand and drape. I’m so happy with the results and looking forward to knitting more projects with this yarn. Stay tuned!
